“A Simple Truth”
A small shift in thinking that changes everything
“It’s not about ME!”
It’s not about I think or feel.
It’s not about growing the business, gaining a new client, or achieving KPIs.
It’s not about me selling you anything.
It’s not about me convincing you to buy anything or do anything.
“It is about YOU!”
It is about understanding my true role with you.
It is about helping you with what I know – if what I know is relevant to you.
It is about helping you with what I have – if what I have is relevant for you.
It is about exploring whether there is anything else in your world that may need attention.
Simple, isn’t it?
Conceptually - yes.
Easy to agree with - yes.
Easy to put into practice in a real conversation - no, not simple at all.
It takes time, effort, and often conscious "unlearning" to live it.
Why?
Because there is so much more to this simple truth than meets the eye.
Like an iceberg, the visible part is small.
Beneath the surface sits the background noise:
the need to perform
the need to impress
the pressure to achieve outcomes
the urge to say the right thing
the ingrained habit of bringing our attention back to ourselves
It’s not about ME is the bridge from the Selling Loop to the Serving Path.
That is why this simple truth is so powerful.
Of course, it’s about me too
I want to provide for my family and our future.
I want to create the life I want for them.
Of course, those things matter.
But they are not the focus of the interaction.
My KPIs are not my purpose.
They are a scorecard of my ability to help others.
When that distinction becomes clear, the pressure begins to change.
What is Your True Role?
Accountant?
Financial Adviser?
Specialist (tax, SMSF, risk etc)?
Lawyer?
Coach?
Mentor?
These are professional labels.
But they are not the whole story.
From the moment we come into the world until the time we leave it,
we all need help from someone.
In that sense your role is bigger than a title.
You are a Guide,
a Wise One,
an Elder of the Tribe
Irrespective of your age…
Your role is not to push.
Your role is not to perform.
Your role is not to convince.
Your role is to understand, to help, and to bring clarity where it is needed.
This is where the shift begins
When you move from:
self-focus to presence
pressure to clarity
selling to serving
The interaction changes.
Trust becomes easier to allow.
Your expertise becomes easier to hear.
And commercial success becomes an outcome, rather than something you have to chase.
